FAQS
Is this the same as the Jan Marini Hyla3D Face Mask? +

Yes - this is the same product. Jan Marini now trades as Marini SkinSolutions, so the packaging carries the new brand name, but the product name and the Hyla3D technology are unchanged.

One difference worth knowing, and a welcome one: the jar got bigger rather than smaller. The older Jan Marini version was 28g and the current one is 48g. The brand's published ingredient list is shown in full under Other Ingredients if you want to compare.

Why does it use five different forms of hyaluronic acid? +

Because they behave differently. Traditional hyaluronic acid is a large molecule that sits on the surface and holds water there – excellent for immediate plumping, but it stays put.

Cross-linked HA forms a network that acts as a moisture reservoir for longer-lasting hydration. Ultra-low molecular weight HA is broken into smaller fragments that work beyond the surface. Liposomal HA is encapsulated for sustained release. Using one form gives you one type of hydration; using five gives you immediate results and results that are still there hours later.

How often should I use it and how long do I leave it on? +

One to three times a week, left on for approximately ten minutes, then removed with a clean, wet, wrung-out flannel and lukewarm water. There is nothing to gain from leaving it longer. Because it contains no acids or retinoids, there is no build-up of irritation to manage, so how often you use it is really down to how dehydrated your skin is.

Does it dry down on the skin, and will it pill? +

It does dry down rather than staying wet on the face – there is kaolin in the formula, which forms an occlusive layer that holds the hydrating ingredients against the skin. It will pill if you touch or rub it while it is setting, which is something reviewers mention. Apply a thin, even layer and then leave it alone for the ten minutes.

How does it fit with the Hyla3D Face Serum and Face Cream? +

They are the same technology at different intensities and in different formats. The serum and cream are daily leave-on products; the mask is the concentrated weekly treatment. You do not need all three – many people run the serum or cream daily and use the mask once or twice a week when their skin needs more. If you are choosing just one to start with, the mask is the one where you will see the difference fastest.

Is it suitable for sensitive skin? +

There are no acids or retinoids in it, and liquorice root extract, allantoin and ceramide NG are all there to soothe and support the barrier, so it is gentle on that front and reviewers with reactive skin speak well of it. It is fragranced, though, with benzyl salicylate, geraniol and linalool declared. If you react to fragranced products, patch test on the inner forearm for 24 hours first.

Can I use it alongside retinol or acids? +

Yes, and it pairs well with them. Because it contains no actives of its own, it does not compete with anything else in your routine, and hydration is exactly what skin needs when retinol or acids have left it feeling tight. Many people use it on the evenings they skip their retinoid.

Will it help if my skin is dehydrated rather than dry? +

Dehydrated skin is precisely what it is built for. Dryness is a lack of oil; dehydration is a lack of water, and it happens on oily skin just as readily. If your skin feels tight but still gets shiny, or fine lines become obvious when you have been travelling or unwell, that is dehydration and hyaluronic acid is the right answer.

Can I use this while pregnant or breastfeeding? +

It contains no acids or retinoids, which are the usual concerns, so it is among the lower-concern options during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and hydration masks are often what people switch to at this time. It does contain fragrance. As with any product, we would recommend checking with your midwife, GP or prescribing clinician before starting or continuing to use it.
