FAQS
Is Medik8 r-Retinoate Day & Night Serum the same as Medik8 r-Retinoate Day & Night? +

Yes. Medik8 now lists this product on its own site simply as r-Retinoate Day & Night; it is the same 50ml product with the same Medik8 product code. We keep the word Serum in the name because that is how most customers search for it.

Can I really use Medik8 r-Retinoate Day & Night Serum in the morning? +

Yes - Medik8 designed it specifically for day and night use, which is rare for a vitamin A product. Apply after cleansing, follow with moisturiser and always finish with a broad-spectrum sunscreen in the morning.

What is retinyl retinoate and how is it different from retinol or retinal? +

Retinyl retinoate is a patented hybrid vitamin A molecule exclusive to Medik8, the result of eight years of research. Medik8 cites it as 8x more powerful than classic retinol, and unlike retinol or retinal it is formulated to be worn by day as well as at night.

Is Medik8 r-Retinoate Day & Night Serum suitable for sensitive skin? +

Medik8 describes the formula as highly tolerated by the most sensitive skin, thanks to encapsulated retinyl retinoate, a low-irritation form of vitamin C and a creamy, hydrating base. Patch test first and follow the phase-in schedule.

Do I need a moisturiser on top? +

Yes. Medik8 recommends a moisturiser on top, as this is a creamy-textured serum designed to be layered under one, morning and/or night.

What is the difference between r-Retinoate Day & Night Serum and r-Retinoate Intense? +

r-Retinoate Day & Night is a serum built on retinyl retinoate plus 7% vitamin C, worn under moisturiser day and night. r-Retinoate Intense is an evening-only, all-in-one night cream that adds retinal, a copper peptide and ceramides, so it needs no moisturiser on top.

Do I still need a separate vitamin C serum? +

Not necessarily. The formula already contains 7% stabilised vitamin C, which is why Medik8 calls it multi-step-in-one. If you prefer to keep a dedicated vitamin C serum such as C-Tetra, apply it first and let it absorb.

How often should I use it when I start? +

Twice a week for the first two weeks, every other day or night for the next two weeks, then daily. Many people start with evenings only and add the morning application once their skin is settled.

Can I use Medik8 r-Retinoate Day & Night Serum during pregnancy or while breastfeeding? +

Medik8 generally recommends avoiding vitamin A while pregnant or breastfeeding and asks customers to discuss the ingredients with their GP or midwife before use. Medik8 Bakuchiol Peptides is the brand's plant-based vitamin A alternative for this time.
