FAQS
Is Neostrata Clarify Gel Plus good for oily, blemish-prone skin? +

Yes - Neostrata formulates it for normal and oily skin, including blemish-prone skin, and describes it as ideal for hot, humid climates. The 15% glycolic acid refines the look of pores, smooths rough texture and evens tone in a lightweight, oil-free gel.

Who should not use Clarify Gel Plus? +

Neostrata recommends it for experienced glycolic acid users and advises against it for anyone sensitive to glycolic acid. If you are new to acids, start with a gentler product such as the PHA-based Restore range.

Can I use Neostrata Clarify Gel Plus with retinol? +

Not in the same routine. Use the gel in the morning (under sunscreen) or on alternate evenings, and your retinol on the other evenings, so the skin is never asked to tolerate both at once.

Can I use it on my body? +

Yes. Neostrata's directions say it may also be applied to the chest and back, which makes it popular for congestion and rough texture in those areas.

How should I start? +

Apply a thin layer once daily for the first two weeks, then increase to twice daily as tolerated. Mild tingling is normal; if you see persistent redness, drop back to alternate evenings.

Do I need sunscreen? +

Absolutely. Neostrata's sunburn alert states that this AHA product may increase the skin's sensitivity to the sun and the possibility of sunburn, so use a sunscreen, wear protective clothing and limit sun exposure while using it and for a week afterwards.

Does it contain alcohol? +

Yes - alcohol denat. is the second ingredient. It is what keeps the gel lightweight, oil-free and fast-absorbing for oily skin; drier or sensitive skins will usually prefer a PHA product.

What is the difference between Clarify Gel Plus and a glycolic toner? +

Most toners carry 5-10% glycolic acid and are swept on with a pad. Gel Plus is a 15% leave-on gel, so it is a step up in strength and is applied as a thin layer to the face, chest or back rather than wiped across the skin.

Can I use Neostrata Clarify Gel Plus during pregnancy or while breastfeeding? +

It contains no vitamin A. Neostrata states there are no known safety concerns with using its cosmetic products during pregnancy but recommends stopping chemical peels during pregnancy and lactation, and a 15% leave-on glycolic is strong enough that many clinicians would pause it. Check with your midwife or GP, and consider Neostrata's gentler PHA Restore products in the meantime.
