FAQS
Is ZO Skin Health Retinol + Blemish Complex good for adult blemish-prone skin? +

Yes - that is exactly who ZO built it for. It combines 0.25% microemulsion retinol with 2% encapsulated salicylic acid so it works on forming blemishes, active breakouts and the red and brown marks left afterwards, while bakuchiol and the ZO-RRS2 complex keep it comfortable enough for nightly use once your skin has adjusted.

Is ZO Skin Health Retinol + Blemish Complex the same as the US version? +

Retinol + Blemish Complex is the name ZO uses for this product in the UK and Europe, where it launched in 2025. The US version carries a different name and is formulated at 1% retinol, whereas the UK formula pairs 0.25% microemulsion retinol with the same 2% encapsulated salicylic acid, azelaic and tranexamic acid derivatives and ZO-RRS2 complex. Always go by the ingredient list printed on your UK pack.

How much retinol and salicylic acid does it contain? +

0.25% retinol, delivered as a microemulsion and amplified with bakuchiol, plus 2% salicylic acid in an encapsulated, slow-release form. The retinol level sits within current UK and EU guidance for leave-on face products, which is one reason it can be used more often than a stronger retinol.

Can I use ZO Skin Health Retinol + Blemish Complex every night? +

Eventually, yes. ZO asks you to begin on 2-3 evenings a week and increase gradually to daily use as tolerated. Once your skin is fully acclimatised ZO lists it for AM + PM use, always under a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher in the morning.

Will it dry my skin out or make it peel? +

Some redness, flakiness, dryness or stinging is normal when starting any retinol and ZO describes these as anticipated reactions that settle with regular use. Pairing it with Hydrating Crème and building up slowly keeps them to a minimum; if they persist, drop back to fewer nights a week.

What is the difference between Retinol + Blemish Complex and Complexion Clarifying Serum? +

Complexion Clarifying Serum is a gentle, twice-daily water-gel that targets surface oil, congestion and redness with ZO's Z-SEB3 complex and water-soluble salicylic acid. Retinol + Blemish Complex is the stronger evening step that adds retinol and ingredients for post-blemish marks. ZO recommends them together: serum by day, complex at night.

Does it help with the marks left after a spot? +

That is one of its three jobs. Cetyl tranexamate mesylate, a next-generation form of tranexamic acid, helps minimise the look of red and brown post-blemish marks, potassium azeloyl diglycinate helps rebalance surface oil, and the retinol supports healthy collagen to improve the look of textural marks over time.

Can I use it with other exfoliating acids or a retinol? +

It already contains both a retinol and a salicylic acid, so there is no need to add either. Keep stronger acids, scrubs and peels to separate evenings, and introduce one new active at a time so you can tell what your skin is responding to.

Can I use ZO Skin Health Retinol + Blemish Complex during pregnancy or while breastfeeding? +

ZO says it does not test its products on women who are pregnant or breastfeeding and asks customers to review the full ingredient list with their doctor or midwife before use. Because this product contains retinol, and most clinicians advise avoiding vitamin A during pregnancy and breastfeeding, we suggest pausing it for this time. Complexion Clarifying Serum is ZO's retinol-free option for blemish-prone skin; run that past your midwife or GP as well.
